Devajit Saikia, secretary of the BCCI, described the incident as “unfortunate” and said that RCB’s celebrations after winning the IPL ought to have been better organized.
Following a stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) offered “heartfelt condolences.” To celebrate the team’s first Indian Premier League (IPL) victory, thousands of fans gathered in the area. However, poor management caused chaos, resulting in 11 fatalities and numerous injuries.
“The terrible events that have been revealed by media reports about public gatherings held throughout Bengaluru in advance of the team’s arrival this afternoon cause us great distress. We place the highest priority on everyone’s safety and well-being. In a statement, RCB expressed its sorrow over the untimely deaths and offered its deepest sympathies to the impacted families.
“As soon as we learned about the situation, we quickly made changes to our program and heeded the local government’s counsel. We implore everyone who supports us to exercise caution,” the statement continued.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, earlier described the incident as “unfortunate” and said that RCB’s celebrations after winning the IPL ought to have been better organized. “It is really regrettable. This is a drawback of being popular. Fans are enamored with their cricket players. It should have been better planned by the organizers. I send the deceased’s family my sincerest condolences. “I hope the injured get better soon,” Saikia told PTI.
“The right safety, security, and precautionary measures must be implemented when planning a victory celebration of this size. Somewhere, there have been mistakes. This has been an anticlimax to the IPL’s spectacular conclusion. IPL celebrations have also taken place in the past, such as in Kolkata last year when KKR won, but nothing took place there.
Bengaluru’s streets were flooded with fans as a crowd gathered outside the Vidhana Soudha, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah honored the players with Mysore Peta and gave them mementos. With much fanfare, the players then boarded the team bus and headed to Chinnaswamy Stadium. The stadium was packed with fans who joined in the celebration as Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar spoke to the crowd.
