Harvard has elected two Indian-Americans, Anjali Sud and Sanjay Seth, to the university’s Board of Overseers and Harvard Alumni Association, respectively.
Anjali Sud has been appointed to Harvard University’s Board of Overseers, which was formed in 1642, for a two-year term. She succeeds former Canadian central bank governor Mark Carney, who resigned from the board on March 9 after becoming leader of Canada’s Liberal Party.
Sanjay Seth will work with HAA, which focuses on increasing alumni participation, community building, and volunteer leadership throughout Harvard’s global alumni network.
This nomination comes amid tensions between US President Donald Trump and Harvard University, following the administration’s threat to suspend the school’s SEVP certification over its enrollment of overseas students.
Anjali Sud, born in Detroit in 1983 to Punjabi immigrant parents and raised in Flint, Michigan, is a well-known Indian-American business executive.
She received her finance and management degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from Harvard Business School in 2011.
She began her career at Amazon, Time Warner, and in mergers and acquisitions before joining Vimeo in 2012 as Vice President of Global Marketing. Then she became CEO of Vimeo, overseeing its transformation into a video software platform and guiding its public debut in 2021.
In 2023, she was appointed CEO of Tubi, a free streaming business with almost 100 million monthly customers. She is also the board chair of Change.org and a member of the Dolby Laboratories and Phillips Academy Andover development boards.
Sud was just elected to Harvard University’s Board of Overseers, with a two-year term beginning May 30, 2025, succeeding Mark Carney. This board, created in 1642, is responsible for overseeing academic and institutional assessments.
Reflecting on her experience, Sud attributes her success to transformational education and wishes to help change the future of higher education. She resides in New York City and is a mother of two.
