16 Pakistani YouTube channels were blocked by the authorities earlier this week for allegedly spreading “false, provocative, and communally sensitive content” about India.
The Instagram accounts of prominent Pakistani cricket players Shahid Afridi, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf were blocked by the government on Friday. The action was taken in the wake of the deadly terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which has led to continued animosity between the two nations.
Following the Pahalgam terror assault, Shahid Afridi posted on social media last Sunday, criticizing the Indian Army and asserting Pakistan’s innocence.
Arshad Nadeem, the gold champion from the Paris Olympics, had his Instagram account suspended in India earlier on Thursday.
Additionally, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s YouTube channel was restricted by the government.
It has fiercely objected to the BBC’s coverage of the Pahalgam incident and suspended 16 Pakistani YouTube channels earlier this week for allegedly spreading “false, provocative, and communally sensitive content” about India.
The government’s action comes after the Ministry of Home Affairs made recommendations following the terror assault that murdered 26 people, primarily tourists, in the upper regions of the Kashmir vacation town on April 22.
