Here is what we currently know about OnePlus’s flagship for 2024.
Even though OnePlus is presently concentrating on releasing its first foldable, the OnePlus Open, it is still developing its portfolio for 2019. The OnePlus 12 won’t be released for several months, but thanks to early leaks, we already have a general idea of what the phone will offer.
With the OnePlus 11, the Chinese manufacturer was able to compete with devices like the Xiaomi 13 and Galaxy S23 while still providing better hardware and cameras that had been fine-tuned by Hasselblad. The absence of a Pro model this year, though, caught my attention. We’ll have to wait and see if OnePlus adopts a similar approach with the OnePlus 12 in 2024.
Therefore, you’ve come to the perfect place if you’re curious to learn more about the OnePlus 12. Let’s get going.
DESIGN ONEPLUS 12
With the OnePlus 11, OnePlus adopted a new design language, and it is one of the best designs the company has ever released in its nine-year history. The brand did a terrific job transferring a similar design to the India-focused OnePlus 11R as well. The brand’s huge camera island at the rear that seamlessly integrates into the mid-frame is designed to turn heads.
Although the Chinese company OnePlus is known for changing the style of its phones on an annual basis, it appears like the OnePlus 12 will have a similar design. The OnePlus 12’s first images show a design that is substantially the same as this year, with a similar combination of modules and LED flash. The Hasselblad branding is now on the side rather than in the center of both pairs of lenses, which is the only distinction.
The rest of the design is very similar to the OnePlus 11, which is nice. I really appreciate what OnePlus did this year in terms of design, especially the Marble Odyssey model, and a phone with a similar appearance and improved camera hardware in 2024 ought to be a winning combination. In general, the OnePlus 11 is one of the best OnePlus smartphones to date, and it’s highly likely that the OnePlus 12 will be just as good.
SPECS FOR ONEPLUS 12
OnePlus has a reputation for producing some of the best hardware, and happily, this won’t change. Early OnePlus 12 rumors indicate a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A model with 24GB of RAM will be released the following year.
The OnePlus 12 is expected to have a comparable 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh, so the screen should remain untouched. With the exception of switching to Qualcomm’s 2024 chipset, I had no problems with the OnePlus 11’s screen or internal hardware, so it appears that things will stay the same with the OnePlus 12.
The battery life of the future flagship is one feature that will be different. According to rumors, the OnePlus 12 will ship with a huge 5,400mAh battery in 2019. Today’s usual battery size for smartphones is 5,000 mAh, so the OnePlus 12 should easily last two days on a single charge thanks to its larger battery. I get a day and a half’s worth of use out of the OnePlus 11’s existing 5,000mAh battery, so I’m eager to see what the OnePlus 12 has to offer.
Regarding charging, the OnePlus 12 is rumored to include both 50W wireless charging and the same 100W charging technology. BBK currently offers 150W charging technology, but for one reason—North America—it’s doubtful that we’ll see that on the OnePlus numbered flagship series. It makes sense that the OnePlus 12 will use the same 100W standard because there is no way to deliver the 150W charging technology in the United States.
Software: ONEPLUS 12
It goes without saying that the OnePlus 12 will ship with OxygenOS 14 out of the box, considering the impending release of Android 14. While OxygenOS 14’s public beta is currently in progress, there aren’t many user-facing changes at this time; however, as we move closer to a stable build, this should change.
It makes sense that OxygenOS 14 doesn’t differ all that much from Android 14, as the latter itself doesn’t bring about many significant changes. It makes sense that this year’s upgrade is incremental, as OxygenOS 13 was a significant step forward for OnePlus; the build provided better stability and resolved many remaining problems that appeared after the combination of OxygenOS with ColorOS.
The price and launch date for OnePlus 12
The OnePlus 11’s retail price is one of its main selling points. The phone offers a better value than most of its direct competitors at launch, and that’s expected to hold true until 2024.
Although I am unsure of the OnePlus 12’s suggested retail price, I can assume that it will fall roughly within the same range because value is a major concern for the maker. I would estimate that the entry-level model would cost $749, and the top-tier model would cost $849. The OnePlus 12 should go on sale in India for 59,999 rupees ($722) for the base model and 64,999 rupees ($782) for the 16GB variant.
When it comes to a debut, OnePlus would want to compete with the Xiaomi 14 series, so expect a formal unveiling in China sometime in December, followed by a global launch in January. I’ll provide more information when I receive it, but given that the OnePlus 11 debuted much sooner than its predecessors, it’s probable that the OnePlus 12 may follow a similar launch schedule.
