UPI Is Working In France: Prime Minister Narendra Modi

India and France have agreed to use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) method, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since the Eiffel Tower will be the first place in France where the UPI payment system is used, Indian tourists can pay in rupees to visit the internationally renowned attraction.

On the first day of his visit to France, the prime minister made the statement while speaking to the Indian diaspora in Paris. Modi declared that a finalized deal has been reached for the use of India’s UPI in France. “A finalized deal has been reached for the use of India’s UPI in France. It will start to be used from the Eiffel Tower in the coming days. The Prime Minister stated that soon visitors from India will be able to pay in rupees via a mobile app in order to see the Eiffel Tower.

MoU with France signed in 2022

The fast and secure online payment system Lyra from France was established in 2022, and it has an agreement in place with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organization that provides UPI services. It is the first agreement of its kind for a European nation, as declared by Modi when the agreement between Lyra and UPI was completed.

The NPCI said earlier this year that it had made UPI transactions available through mobile phones in the USA, UK, Singapore, UAE, and Australia. According to a notice from NPCI, non-resident account types including NRE and NRO with overseas mobile numbers can now conduct UPI transactions.

13 nations that intend to implement the UPI interface for electronic payments have so far signed MoUs with India.
