In 2016, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduced FASTag, a new technology to reduce lines at toll booths.
FASTag, for those who are unfamiliar, is an electronic toll collecting system that makes it simpler for travellers to pay toll taxes at toll plazas and keeps track of cars that cross highways quickly since it automatically deducts the toll amount from the account.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the foundation of the FASTag program, which is used to collect toll payments from drivers. It is a tag that is placed to the windscreen of the automobile and connected to either a bank account or prepaid card. When a vehicle with a FASTag attached drives up to a toll booth, the booth’s scanner recognizes the tag and deducts tax from the associated bank account or the prepaid card.
